Recipes - Home Cleaners

Here's some simple recipes for using essential oils around the home that I have been using for many many years.

If you're not sure which oils to use, Amor's Basic Care Kit for the Home is a great starting point.

Air Freshener
Add 100 drops to 100ml of purified water (or boiled) in a bottle with a mist spray.  Shake well and spray the mist into the air.  Adding essential oil solubiliser is optional.

Carpet Freshener
To a wide mouthed glass jar add 100 drops of essential oils to 1/2 cup of baking soda.  Leave for 24 hours shaking at intervals to distribute the oils through the powder.  Sprinkle over carpet, leave for 15 minutes and then vacuum.

Closet and Drawer Pomanders
Add 10 drops to a cotton ball, wrap up in a scrap of fabric or plastic bag and place in closet or drawers.  Refresh as required.

Furniture Polish
Add your favourite essential oil to a bottle of bought polishing oil/linseed oil/furniture wax.  Combine ingredients and gently polish.

Gardening - Insectide
Add 4 drops of essential oil to every 1 litre - mix well to disperse the essential oil droplets and water your plants as required.

Add 5 drops per person to your spa - beware of lemongrass and peppermint as they can dissolve seals (we know this from personal experience).

Washing Machine - Add 5-10 drops with your powder or in your fabric softener section.
Dryer - Add 10 drops to a cloth and add to the dryer with your clothing for a fresh smelling load.  Great to use if the washing is starting to get that damp smell.
