Colds & Coughs Chest Rub

Starting at: $13.57

This soothing chest rub is a gentle and natural alternative to Vicks®, and whilst helping to ease breathing and clearing the airways, it is boosting the immune system due to its essential oil properties. Recommended for snuffly babies too.

  • Eucalyptus radiata - the gentlest of the eucalyptus essential oils, it is safe for infants. Best known for its decongestant and expectorant abilities, eucalyptus radiata helps relieve muscular spasms (think of that poor little chest coughing), and is antiviral, so if anyone else is coming down sick apply it sooner rather than later as a preventative.

  • Kanuka - has similar properties to Eucalyptus radiata, and eases all types of respiratory infections and can help clear them, so when you don't know what is setting off their cough, this will help ease the discomfort. And it's a beautiful NZ oil that smells divine.

  • Manuka - has similar properties and abilities to Kanuka, although not as soft on the senses aromatically.  My experience with working with these native NZ essential oils is that they work better together. However, when I first created this blend for my son, the research wasn't available, and the only bottle of Manuka I could find was blended with Kanuka, which is why it was added.

  • Spike Lavender  - reduces mucous congestion and works as an expectorant in this blend, as well as having the ability to reduce inflammation which helps your baby breathe easier, and reduces feelings of anxiety and panic (which works well for all)

  • Amor base cream - to soothe and moisturise baby's sensitive skin, and glides on easily.

How to use:
Apply as minimal amount as possible to the rib-cage area, front and back, and around the base of the neck and throat.

For Babies 2-12 months (5 - 10 kg), apply directly to the skin once a day, preferably at bedtime.

For 13 months - 2 years (10 - 13 kg), apply directly to the skin twice a day, preferably 12 hours apart.

For 3- 5 years (14 - 19 kg), apply directly to the skin three times a day, preferably 8 hours apart.

Comes packaged in a frosted glass pot with a black lid.

This is the second balm that I made up.
Kyle always had raspy breathing and at night he sounded terrible.  This was from birth onwards and we were told it was because he was suctioned at birth and it would go away, but it didn't.

When he was 11 months old he was diagnosed with asthma, and we nearly lost him after he was put in a steam tent as the local A&E clinic thought he had croup (told you he sounded bad).  2 hours later we're in an ambulance to Starship fighting for his life as he could barely breathe.  Turned out the humidity triggered asthma in him, and that was the start of our regular trips and stays with Hotel Starship and he was a 4 inhalers 4 - 6 times a day to keep him going along with pneumonia and being susceptible to chest infections.

One of the main reasons I created this cream was to ease his breathing so that the inhalers would work more effectively, and in the process his breath that always smelt awful become pleasant, and we could cuddle him again because he didn't like being constricted or swaddled.

Move forward to 5 years old and we end up in Gold Coast Hospital on holiday and the Paediatrician there diagnosed him with a lung that didn't work due to scar tissue in his bronchial tube... and that's another story!
