Clary eases muscle and nervous tension, pain, for balancing uterine issues, menstrual cramps, PMS, and menopause problems such as hot flashes, while slightly stimulating the adrenal glands. It also has oestrogenic action.

In Europe, it is used as a sore throat remedy.

Clary helps rejuvenate hair and mature or inflamed skin, and reduces dandruff, as well as cleaning greasy hair.

It helps in cases of panic, paranoia, mental fatigue, general debility, post-partum depression, and PMS. There is also some documentation of its effectiveness in helping to relax the spasms of asthma.

Non-toxic, and non-sensitizing. It is not to be used during pregnancy. Avoid large amounts, which can stupefy, and don’t combine clary with alcohol.

History:

The name Clary sage is derived from the Latin word for "clear" - probably because the herb was once used for clearing mucous from the eyes. During the sixteenth century it was also used in England for brewing beer as a replacement for hops.
