There are a number of different Cedarwood oils that are recognised within the essential oil industry.  There are two major differences between these oils, that being the family they originate from and the geographical location. The oils are generally distinguished by their geographical location.  Cedarwood Virginian belongs to the Cupressaceae family, high in cedrol, cedrene and thujopsene.  It is produced from the wood of the Southern Red Cedar, which is a slow-growing, coniferous evergreen, reaching heights of 33 metres or so, the diameter of the trunks can reach over 1.5 metres.  It has a reddish heartwood and bears brown cones.

This colourless to pale yellow oil is sweet and woody, similar to Sandalwood.

Blends well with
Rosewood, Bergamot, Cypress, Chamomile, Cassia, Jasmine, Neroli, Rosemary, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Juniper, Oakmoss, Petitgrain, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver.  Base Note for blending.

Cedarwood Virginian calms nervous tension and states of anxiety, and is used for concentration and clarity.
It is an expectorant and useful in treating hemorrhoids, detering moths and other insects, and will act as a mild astringent, as well as helping to relieve muscle and joint pain.
It is a very powerful antiseptic, fungicidal and antiseborrheic (helps with dandruff, hair loss and oily hair), and is in products used to combat acne.
Fragrance component and fixative in household products, soaps and detergents as well as perfumes, especially men's fragrances.
