One of my favourite reference sites is the Manufactured Food Database www.mfd.co.nz.
Here you can get a list of foods for common food allergies and intolerances: - egg, legume, milk, peanut, soya, wheat for those with allergies - low gluten, gluten free and low lactose for those who are intolerant. It definitely makes supermarket shopping easier and quicker when you have a list - and for those of you who enjoy grocery shopping online, it turns a risk into a pleasure.
Another favourite site is www.glutenfreeliving.co.nz which has a list of foods, restaurants and accommodation that can cater to our dietary needs.
Lyn Webster's Guide to Home Budgeting
www.pigtitsandparsleysauce.co.nz is a great site for recipes for homemade household products, from toothpaster to laundry powder. Lyn has a weekly column dedicated to shopping for less than $100 with some fantastic money saving hints and tips, and buys some of her raw materials through us.
Manufacturing Your Own Cosmetics and Skincare for the Retail Market
If you would like to launch your own range and want to know more about how to formulise cosmetics, then this is the course for you. If I wasn't already studying my degree, I'd be doing this!
Here is a more detailed outline of our courses we have to offer. Our professional personal care Diplomas courses are fully accredited under the Australian Quality Training Framework by the Training and Employment Recognition Council and are audited by the Department of Education. For your information I have attached our Institute Prospectus, which gives you a good outline on the services and Diplomas we offer.
All of our courses are taught by distance education via online lectures that are accessible to you at any time of day, so you can study from your own location. Your study background will determine the required time for study per week. If you have a chemistry or science knowledge or background, this time may be around 10 hours per week. If not, then you would need to allow about 15 - 20 hours per week. On successful completion of the Diploma of Personal Care Formulation, learners will be entitled to letters Dip Form Chem and the title ‘Formulations Chemist’.
There are no set exams and the workbooks are designed to help learners direct their study through question content. The Student Handbook includes all our helpful information as well as due dates for assessments. Queries and assistance can be given from our trainers via email and phone extended hours of the day, and also potentially Skype in the near future.
The Diploma of Personal Care Formulation also incorporates a practical component, where we send learners a box of raw materials. Our overseas students receive all of their learning materials via email plus their box of raw materials for the practical component of the course via post.
I have included below our flexible payment option for the Diplomas:
- Diploma of Personal Care Development and Promotion: (Duration 6 months)
Initial Deposit of $500 for Module One, ideally studied over four weeks, Then 3 modules of $750 each, ideally studied over six weeks each. (Total cost $2,750)
- Diploma of Personal Care Formulation: (Duration 12 months)
Initial Deposit of $500 for Module One, ideally studied over two weeks, Then 5 modules of $1,000 each, ideally studied over eight weeks each. Postage cost for box of raw materials $300 (Total cost $5,800)
The Organic Module and Colour Cosmetic modules are $2,500 each and have a prerequisite of the Diploma of Personal Care Formulation.
Our next intake is 19th July 2010.
