Whipped Body Butter

Body butter is an extremely rich mix of solid and liquid fats and oils. It is quick and easy to make, even for an absolute beginner. For maximum absorption, apply after your bath or shower.   The glycerine and benzoin tincture are required if you want to give this as a gift or expect it to last longer than 3 weeks.

You will need:
Saucepan & a stainless steel, glass or ceramic bowl that fits over the pan
Scales
Container with spout for pouring
Clean jars.

50g Shea Butter (unrefined or refined)
50g Vegetable oil (sweet almond, apricot kernel, olive oil, coconut oil)
2.5ml (1/4 tsp) glycerine
5 drops Benzoin tincture
1ml Essential oils of your choice

Place shea butter in the bowl.  Place the bowl over the pan half-filled with water and heat gently until the shea butter has melted.
Remove from heat, add the vegetable oils.
Cool in freezer until a crust begins to form around the edges of the bowl and it starts to become opaque.
Remove from freezer and start beating with an electric mixer, preferably with a whisk attachment.
Once the mix becomes aerated and fluffy, drizzle in the glycerin and benzoin tincture while mixing on low speed.  Once all the glycerin is in, whip again.
Add essential oil at 1% of the total weight of the ingredients (1ml = 20 drops), stir and pour into the clean jar/s.
Because there is no water in this recipe, you should not encounter any problems with separation of the ingredients.

Basic Body Wash/Shampoo Base
This base will separate as there are no artificial ingredients to hold it together.  Therefore, we recommend shaking it before use to disperse it.
To make 100gm/approx 125ml...

You will need:
45gm Purified or Distilled Water
20gm Cocoglucoside or Polyglucose (Surfactant)
20gm Cocobetaine (Surfactant)

4gm Laureth-2 (Thickener)
1gm Citric Acid (pH adjuster)
0.5gm Potassium Sorbate (Fungicide & Bactericide)
10-20 drops of essential oils of your choice
1 x coloured bottle (hides the separation layers, although they can look funky if you add colour as depending on the colour it will either rise to the top or fall to the bottom)

1. Mix Honey into the water until dissolved
2. Mix Potassium Sorbate into the water until dissolved
3. Mix Citric Acid into the water until dissolved
4. Add Cocoglucoside and Cocobetaine until dissolved

6. Add your essential oils

Vegetable oils and herbal tinctures can be added - if you wish to use them, deduct them from your water measure.
