There is a lot of information (and contraversy) around in books and on the internet in regards to essential oils and which ones are and aren't safe to use.  One must remember that essential oils are absorbed into the blood stream, and therefore into the organs, and in some studies with animals have shown that they can cross over into the placenta.

Here is my recommended list based on 20 years of experience and knowledge.

Not Recommended
Angelica - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Aniseed - oestrogenic activity
Basil - oestrogenic activity
Cedarwood - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Clary Sage - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Cypress - not recommended during the first trimester or if there is a history of miscarriages/still births
Fennel - oestrogenic activity
Hyssop - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Lavender - not recommended during the first trimester or if there is a history of miscarriages/still births
Sweet Marjoram - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Mugwort - will induce an abortion
Myrrh - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Parley Seed - will induce an abortion
Pennyroyal - will induce an abortion
Peppermint - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Rose - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Rosemary - can stimulate contractions (emmanagogue)
Rue - will induce an abortion
Sage - oestrogenic activity
